As President and Chief Executive Officer, Vern Yu leads the development and execution of AltaGas’ strategy, oversees operations and manages the business and affairs of AltaGas.

Vern is an experienced executive with a proven track record of success across the energy infrastructure value chain including within North American Midstream and Utilities markets being AltaGas’ core focus areas. Vern joins AltaGas after a successful three-decade career at Enbridge Inc., most recently serving as Executive Vice President, Corporate Development, Chief Financial Officer and President, New Energy Technologies. Prior to that, Vern held various commercial, operational, and financial roles including serving as Executive Vice President and President of Liquids Pipelines and as Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, where he played a leading role in securing more than $30 billion in new growth projects, completion of major pipe replacement projects, leading entry into new markets, and various acquisitions.

Vern is a Professional Engineer and holds a Master of Business Administration degree in Finance from the University of Toronto, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Science from Queen’s University. Vern serves on the Board of the Calgary Economic Development. He previously served as the Vice Chair of the Alberta Cancer Foundation’s Board of Trustees and served on the Boards of DCP Midstream and Énergir Inc.

In his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, James Harbilas is responsible for the overall financial strategy of AltaGas as well as its treasury, corporate development and capital market functions. James joined AltaGas from Enerflex Ltd., a Calgary-based, international natural gas services company, where he served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for over 11 years. Prior to his leadership role at Enerflex Ltd., he also served as Vice President, Finance and Chief Financial Officer of Fortis Alberta Inc., a regulated utility. James is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Concordia University.

Corine Bushfield joined AltaGas Ltd in 2016 and is responsible for corporate-wide functions including procurement, human resources and information technology. Corine is a Chartered Professional Accountant with more than 20 years of oil and gas industry experience. Over her career, Corine has worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the auditing and transaction services groups, Encana Corporation as Vice President and Assistant Controller, and most recently with Long Run Exploration as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. Corine holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary and is a member of the Chartered Professional Accountants of Alberta. 

In his role as Executive Vice President and Chief Legal Officer, Brad Grant oversees the legal, corporate secretarial and environment, health and safety teams. Brad has extensive experience in the petroleum and natural gas and power sectors and was formerly managing partner of the Calgary office of a national law firm. Brad holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Saskatchewan and a joint Bachelor of Laws and Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of British Columbia.

Donald (Blue) Jenkins joined AltaGas in December 2019. In his role, he oversees the development and execution of AltaGas’ strategic plan and is responsible for advancing our strategy of implementing an operational excellence model across our U.S. Utilities. Blue is a seasoned executive with more than two decades of experience in all facets of the energy industry including senior leadership roles in commercial strategy, business development, trading, information technology and safety. He holds a Master of Business Administration degree from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Brigham Young University.

Randy Toone joined AltaGas as Executive Vice President, Gas in 2016 and was appointed Executive Vice President and President, Gas in 2018. In this role, he provides leadership for the commercial and business development teams within the gas division, aligning divisional activities with AltaGas’ strategic direction and growth targets.

His experience with AltaGas began in 2003 working in the extraction and transmission business. He progressed his career at AltaGas through senior management and executive roles in both the Midstream and Utilities segments before leaving the company to pursue interests abroad. In addition to AltaGas Ltd, Randy has worked with CVS Midstream as Chief Operating Officer and as Country Manager for TAG OIL in New Zealand. He holds a Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering, from the University of Calgary and attended the Executive Program at the Ivey Business School at Western University.

Hejdi Carlsen is the Senior Vice President of Corporate Affairs at AltaGas, where she oversees the company’s communication, community, government, Indigenous, stakeholder and sustainability initiatives. Her role is pivotal in sharing the company’s story and building essential relationships to advance business outcomes.

Hejdi is a seasoned and transformational executive with over 25 years in leadership roles within the energy and logistics sectors, holding positions at industry leading organizations including BP, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, and Waste Management. She most recently served as TC Energy’s Vice President, Brand, Marketing & Communications. 

Driven by her commitment to building resilient communities, Hejdi has been a dedicated Board Member of the Calgary Food Bank for six years, serving on the Compensation, Nominations, and Governance Committee.

Hejdi holds a Bachelor of Applied Communications from Mount Royal University and a BA in Psychology from Acadia University.
