In November, 2017, the City of Prince Rupert, in partnership with the Province and the North Coast Transition Society opened a new extreme weather shelter for the homeless in downtown Prince Rupert.
While the province provided funding to cover the shelter’s expenses, additional funding was needed to effectively run the 25-bed shelter. Prince Rupert’s Mayor Brain put out the call for help and AltaGas quickly stepped up to help with a $10,000 donation.
The extreme weather shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. on Sundays and provides a light meal.
